I don’t remember the first time I heard about the book… It was probably on my Bookstagram account that I used at the time.
And I heard about it as a new Twilight of the age, even the covers remind me of the saga, so I’m not blaming anybody.
However, as I started reading it, some of the wording seemed off, and the characters are really resembling Edward (even to the point where I was explaining what was happening to my friends and using this name and not actually one Jaxon).
But my friends are not enough, I have to tell the whole world.
There are fewer days than chapters in this book, so I'll be counting it like that and look forward to the journey!
Day 1
Everything is happening in the small town in Alaska called Healy, and this is where our main character Grace moves because her parents have died in a car accident and her only relatives are there.
Her cousin Macy comes to meet her at the airport and the sentence that talks about her just standing there made me realise that the author is also probably from a warm country. (I was right)
The description goes: “The moving pile of hats, scarves, and jackets says….” As a person from a cold climate (not as cold as Alaska, probably, but still cold) I can say that I don’t wear multiple scarves or hats… I don’t even know how everything would fit on me, to be honest.
But yeah, maybe I’m just being nitpicky and that’s a visual way to describe how weird everything looks to Grace who just arrived.
So they move to school, and it seems like a castle and everyone is hot, but Macy quickly goes to her father (also the principal of the school) and disappears for an hour or two.
Probably less, but the time goes extremely slowly as our Edward, real name Jaxon shows up.
He does the whole intimidating talk about how she should be very careful around here and basically threatens Grace, which is fine guys, HE’S HOT.
But this is in most YA books, what bothered me was his hair length. No, I'm not kidding.
“He [Jaxon] sweeps a hand through his dark hair. His longish bangs part just enough to reveal a jagged scar from the centre of his left eyebrow to the left corner of his mouth.”
How long are his bangs to not notice the scar at all? They’ve been talking for more than five minutes already so you should definitely have noticed it. Am I the weird one here? Who cannot visualise it properly?
Well, as soon as I read the chapter I quickly looked up how he looks and it’s not really how he was described…

These are just some of the fan art that I have found on Google. Chose more than one because I wanted you to see that there is no fanart that goes with that description. Maybe the emo one fits.
That’s pretty much their interaction, he disappears as soon as he’s done talking. And the cousin comes back with the uncle and they grab a student to help them out.
The student is named Flint and I like to call him Jacob… Aka the second lead guy. But his introduction doesn’t amaze me. Again he’s hot but that’s barely it. The author wants to portray him as goofy and stuff but his actions gave me an ick.
Macy explains about her altitude sickness and Flint decided to help her by carrying her. Grace says no that she's fine and at first seems like he will back out.
But sadly that's not what happens..

This made me so uncomfortable to read… Personally, I would have pushed him away even with altitude sickness… But maybe that’s why I’m not the main character…
The two male leads were introduced and I don’t really like any of them, and I don’t know I kind of like a slow burn but here we have Grace thirsting doesn’t matter who you are.
Okay, maybe more for Jaxon than anyone else.
So they walk up to her dormitory which she will have to share with Macy and suddenly Jaxon with his friends show up.
He doesn't even look at her but they brush shoulders and Grace is having a meltdown because of that.
Oh, almost forgot to mention, while Flint is getting her up the stairs… He’s also holding two suitcases and Grace is like “Yeah, he’s just a very muscly guy” and she’s just so oblivious. I don’t think a normal guy student could do that while also pushing her up the stairs.
But yeah, the main people are introduced, so you might be asking why it has almost 600 pages. The answer is pretty obvious if you're reading this book, but let me demonstrate you:
“Lined up inside the closet are several black skirts and pants along with white and black blouses, a bunch of black or purple polo shirts, two black blazers, and two red and black plaid scarves. There are also a bunch of lined hoodies, a few thick sweaters, a heavy jacket, and two more pairs of snow pants - none of which is in hot pink, thankfully.”
She continues to talk about what’s on the floor but I think you get the message. I get that you need to describe things, please do describe how you’re dressed. But do I really need to get a detailed description of the closet? I can get the idea just by the clothes you wear.
But yeah let’s move on to other chapters because we might get stuck in the closet or something.
Grace go exploring the school and accidentally meets two students who decide to throw her outside.
After she tries to escape someone interrupts and she sees one of the bad guys flying across the entryway “Eyes wide as he slams into the farthest wall. I don’t have time to think about how that happened though, because it takes only a second for him to recover, and then he’s charging back across the foyer, straight at me.”
I’m sure the space where they at is quite big because they’re near the entrance from my understanding and Grace doesn’t think twice about it??
I know a lot of things are happening here but I don’t think she ever mentions it again… At least not till she knows what is happening in the school but we are not even close to that yet.
So the person who came to save her if you didn’t guess yet is of course Jaxon. And they have another ridiculous moment that I think Grace just imagined it.
I know that if we would get a book from his perspective the author would add something about it.
However, what I’m imagining now is just him staring to make sure she’s all right, at best and her imagining all sorts of things.

The secret that I think she imagined but anyway, the two guys apologise and blame it on the moon (it’s a full moon), Grace is smart enough not to say it’s okay and she’s left with Jaxon.
He sees blood on her lips and brushes it off with his fingers and licks it, personally very ew, not in this economy but I know that some people like this stuff. I’m not here to shame or anything.
End of day 1
These are all of the adventures she had for one day but believe me, there will be more.
The book does remind me of Twilight in some ways but because I'm an adult now, I just feel that a lot of things here are ridiculous. If I was 11 again and would have stumbled upon this book, I would've eaten it up and wanted more.
But for now, I'm hate reading it because I enjoy torturing myself and it's kind of fun in that way.
